John Ingledew - Photography

In this blog post I will be highlighting some of the ideas and tips in this reading, that I found most useful or interesting. The reading breaks down the importance of photography as well as it's history. The reading begins with a quote by Jacques-Henri Lartigue "What's so great about photography? Photography is a magical thing", the opening goes onto explain a short history of the photo and cameras.

Some aspect that I found interesting were the a photo can "evoke", "preform" and "inspire". This rings true as a photo holds such power, the viewer can bring forward there own ideas to the work but the photo also holds the ability to present an idea to the audience. Another aspect of this reading that I found very interesting was the technicality of the old black and white film, the use of silver in the photo paper to produce different tones when exposed to the light is amazingly brilliant, I also discovered that this idea was later applied to the RGB colour photos as they are produced in layers.

Overall this reading helped to to gain the basics of photographs development through time and the importance and power of the photo.
